The School

The story of the Taraben Master School starts almost six decades ago in April 1953 with the establishment of a nursery school in Santacruz, then a lovely green and sparsely populated suburb. The nursery soon grew to over 300 children and in response to the ever growing community needs, primary and secondary sections were added, first in Gujarati and then in English.

By 1972 plans were implemented to initiate the construction of a new school building, on land leased by the government of Maharashtra. 1975 saw the completion of the project with a brand new school building and sports ground, with great help from public and business contributions.

The various levels of the school* have been consolidated under the Public Charitable Trust known as the Santacruz West Education Society (SWES).

The current board of Trustees comprises; Dr Seema Gupta,(Chairman), Mr Siddarth B Modi, Mr Sudhir Gupta, Mr Kiran Master, Mr Mukesh Dhandhania, Mr Devang Shah.

Previous Trustees who have served the school over the decades with our gratitude are Mrs Taraben Master (Founder), Mr Sunderlal B Dalal, Mr Mangaldas A Master, Mrs Kapila Khandwala, Mr Mangaldas K Chowksey, Mrs Gangaben Patel, Mrs Dahibahen Desai, Mrs Mudrikabahen Anjara, Mrs Chanchalbahen Modi, Mrs Lilavati Khandwala, Mr Hariprasad M Trivedi, Dr Jyotiben Trivedi, Mr Ashok B Modi, Dr Brijlal Gupta, Mrs Kamalini Bhansali, Mrs Bindu Kumana, Dr Torulata B. Gupta, Mrs Veena Kumar.

We have currently an attendance of 1032 children, 42% girls and 58% boys, through Pre-Primary to 10th Standard.

Pre-Primary (76), Primary- 1st-4th Standard (371), Secondary- 5th-10th Standard (585).

With a team of 30 teachers and 11 ancillary staff.

The SWES follows the Maharashtra Board: Secondary School Certificate (SSC).
